Julius Fučík
Grande Marcia Italiana
op. 214
Arrangement for
Percussion Quartet
Large Percussion Ensemble
Leonhard Waltersdorfer
Florentiner Marsch is a double-sided arrangement of Julius Fučík’s well-known march, conceived for percussion quartet (with optional tuba) and large percussion ensemble (7–10 players).
Both versions feature a prominent solo for musical saw, giving the piece a distinctive color and a slightly theatrical edge. If performing on musical saw is not feasible, another unconventional instrument may be substituted to achieve a comparable effect.
The large ensemble version expands the material into a more densely layered percussion setting. While the core instrumentation remains clearly defined, selected percussion parts are marked as optional to allow adaptation to different ensemble sizes.
Both versions may be performed independently or combined, allowing additional players to be integrated into the ensemble as needed.
Instruments set in italics are optional.
The score for large percussion ensemble uses color coding to indicate the relative difficulty levels of the individual parts, supporting balanced ensemble planning.
These indicators are specific to the ensemble setting and should not be compared directly with difficulty levels in solo or duo repertoire.
