Leonhard Waltersdorfer
Vibraphone & Marimba
Colours is a duo for vibraphone and marimba, with the vibraphone part also playable as a standalone solo version.
The piece unfolds in a calm, wave-like motion shaped by gradual crescendi and decrescendi. Beginning in D major, the harmonic language slowly expands as additional colors are introduced, moving through subtle shifts of texture and register.
At the center of the piece stands a sustained fermata on A♭ — a tritone away from the opening key and the furthest possible point of harmonic distance. From there, the music gradually returns to D major.
The focus lies on sustained sound, gentle harmonic transitions, and a continuous sense of flow, allowing each change of color to emerge naturally and without urgency.
